The Service Foods board and executive team are responsible for corporate governance, strategic direction, control of the company’s activities and execution of the strategy.

They are focussed on continuing to build shareholder wealth within a New Zealand owned and operated success story, whilst maintaining a high degree of professionalism and performance.

ANEIL BALAR 
MANAGING DIRECTOR

When Aneil joined the family business, straight after completing a BCom in Accounting and Management at the University of Auckland, the growth Service Foods has seen is something he couldn't have imagined would eventuate. Fast forward 20 years and under Aneil’s leadership, Service Foods' revenue has grown by over 100x through both organic and inorganic strategies. Solving our customer's needs is a key driver for Aneil, as is building a great team and growing careers.

NIKUL BALAR 
Director & Chief Technology Officer

Nikul joined Service Foods in 2006 after completing a BCom in Accounting and Management at the University of Canterbury. Day to day, Nikul now leads Digital, Technology, IT and Data for Service Foods. Having worked in all parts of the Service Foods' operation, Nikul has an inherent understanding of our systems, which are the backbone of the business. Watching the industry evolve at a rapid pace, drives him to use technology to solve its problems, at an equally quick pace.

STAN BALAR
FOUNDER

After arriving in Christchurch in 1983, Stan founded what has now become one of NZ’s largest food distribution businesses. In 1993, Stan moved the business from a grocery shop into foodservice by establishing Balar Foods in Christchurch, which now features as one of Service Foods home brands. Today, Stan is an observer to the board of Service Foods and focuses his skills within the property arm of the group where he identifies sites, and works with the full spectrum of contractors to develop state of the art distribution centres.

RICHARD CAMPBELL
CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

Richard joined Service Foods in 2021 and brings with him a broad range of strategy and corporate finance experience, from both within New Zealand, at NZTE & KPMG, and internationally in both China & the UK. Working with our ambitious team, Richard enjoys being part of New Zealand's developing food story and turning our Service Food's purpose into reality.

ROSS BUCKLEY 
CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD

Ross recently retired after 38 years with the Global accounting and consulting firm KPMG. In his last nine years, Ross was Executive Chairman of KPMG in New Zealand and a member of KPMG’s Asia Pacific Board and KPMG’s Global Council. During his career with KPMG he managed the firm’s Audit, Risk and Tax practices, in addition to the firms’ People, Performance and Culture function. Ross is a strong believer in the importance of education and strong governance practices and currently chairs the Auckland Branch of the Institute of Directors and the Massey School of Business Advisory Board. He is also a director of ASB Bank and an independent director of Stride Property.

SUNEIL CONNOR
CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Suneil has been with Service Foods since 2020 and loves being part of a company that's the connection between producers and chefs, the caretakers of great quality food. As well as being a chartered accountant, Suneil holds a number of governance roles and is notably a director of KiwiHarvest, The New Zealand Food Network, and Auckland Foundation.

CAROLYN MORTLAND 
Independent DIRECTOR

Carolyn has twenty years of experience in the food and beverage industry, holding positions in Fonterra such as corporate counsel, GM Foodservice Strategy and Director of Global Sustainability. She has a background in commercial law, including working at Chapman Tripp on initial public offers and mergers and acquisitions. Carolyn is a board member of the Tāwhaki Joint Venture and the Pause Breathe Smile Trust. She is also a member of the Zespri Sustainability Advisory Board and a Beachhead Advisor with NZTE where she helps embed sustainability into the strategy for many of New Zealand’s food and fibre exporting companies.

Ravi Patel   
GM - NATIONAL PROCUREMENT & SUPPLY CHAIN

Fresh from the University of Canterbury in 2003, Ravi joined Service Foods in the original Christchurch packhouse, and in his words, "the rest is history". Ravi's intimate knowledge of our sector is second to none and he uses all he knows to coach and mentor others at Service Foods which is one of his job highlights.
