OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS
AND EXECUTIVE TEAM

The Service Foods board and executive team are responsible for corporate governance, strategic direction, control of the company’s activities and execution of the strategy.

They are focussed on continuing to build shareholder wealth within a New Zealand owned and operated success story, whilst maintaining high degree of professionalism and performance.

ROSS BUCKLEY  BBS, FCA, FCPA CMinstD
CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD

Ross was executive chair of KPMG New Zealand from 2011 – 2020 and held a variety of roles within KPMG including board member of KPMG Asia Pacific, and a member of KPMG’s Global Council. He is an independent director of ASB Bank and a member of ASB’s Appointment & Remuneration and Audit & Risk Committees. He is also the chair of the Auckland Branch of the Institute of Directors, and sits on the Institute of Directors National Council. Ross also chairs the advisory board of Massey University’s College of Business.

ANEIL BALAR  BCom, MInstD
MANAGING DIRECTOR

Aneil joined Service Foods in 2004 after completing a BCom in Accounting and Management at the University of Auckland. Under Aneil’s leadership, Service Foods revenue has grown by over 100x by executing both organic and in-organic growth strategies.

NIKUL BALAR   BCom
Director & Chief Technology Officer

Nikul joined Service Foods in 2006 after completing a BCom in Accounting and Management at the University of Canterbury. Nikul leads Digital, Technology, IT and Data for Service Foods. He has played a leading role with systems and operational integration whenever acquisitions are made.

SUNEIL CONNOR   BCom (DipGrad), CA, MInstD, AAICD
Chief Financial Officer

Suneil is a Chartered Accountant and Chief Financial Officer for Service Foods. He is a board member of Auckland Foundation, director of KiwiHarvest and director of New Zealand Food Network. He chairs the Audit and Risk Committee for Auckland Foundation, KiwiHarvest and New Zealand Food Network. Suneil is also the treasure and committee member of the Auckland Branch of the Institute of Directors, and is a board observer for the Auckland region of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ).

Richard Campbell   BCom, MBA, MInstD
Commercial Director

Richard is Service Foods' Commercial Director focusing on strategy, performance improvement, capital structuring and culture. He was part of the corporate strategy team at IAG and went on to be a Director at KPMG, with his most recent role as an investment manager at New Zealand Trade and Enterprise. Richard has also previously been a strategic advisor for Springboard Trust, a mentor at the Akina Foundation, and an evaluator of the New Zealand Innovation Awards. Richard has a BCom from the University of Canterbury majoring in finance and economics, and an MBA from Auckland University.

STAN BALAR
FOUNDER & BOARD OBSERVER

After arriving in Christchurch in 1983, Stan founded what has now become one of NZ’s largest food distribution businesses. In 1993, Stan moved the business from a grocery shop into foodservice by establishing Balar Foods in Christchurch, which now features as one of Service Foods home brands. Today, Stan is an observer to the board of Service Foods and focuses his skills within the property arm of the group where he identifies sites, and works with the full spectrum of contractors to develop state of the art distribution centres.

Ravi Patel   BCom (Hons)
General Manager - South Island

Ravi has been with Service Foods since 2001 and is our South Island General Manager. With a BCom with honours from the University of Canterbury, Ravi’s intimate knowledge of the foodservice sector is second to none. He is a specialist in imports, trading and operations. He plays a significant role around our board table as a fountain of knowledge.

ANDREW HAWKES   BCM, PG Dip Comm, CA, CPP, MInstD
Advisor to the Board

Andrew Hawkes is the Founding Director of Beck & Caul Financial. Previously a Partner with KPMG Christchurch, Andrew has been advising Service Foods for over 10 years. He has been an integral part of the growth of Service Foods. Andrews specialties include strategic planning, governance, succession planning, forecasting and tax. He has advised high growth businesses for over 20 years, and has a number of successful New Zealand SME’s as clients.
